- Year of commissioning: 2017
Tapón Corona is a company that produces plastic bottles (PET) for beverage industry. It belongs to the Universal Packaging Group of Mexico.
In the process of manufacturing containers, machines with sensitive voltage fluctuations, such as blower and labeller, are used.
Featured aspects
- Significant reduction in production costs caused by machine shutdowns
- Reduction of unproductive time due to machine shutdowns
Description
Challenge
The plant is located in a rural area exposed to energy failures caused by rain, wind and trees; the voltage sag generation was constantly causing damage (especially to blowers) due to the bursting of lamps in the furnaces. As a results, waste of pre-form (raw material) was made. The variation of temperature of furnaces would also increase unproductive time to the end user Coca-Cola, because the equipment is in line with the filling process, which is administered by this client.
Between 2015 and May 2017 (before the AVC SET DVR), a total of 95 halogen lamps were consumed for the blowers with a total cost of $ 63,216; compared with 12 lamps with a total cost of $ 13,675 (including additional repair works due to unsolved shutdowns) from May 2017 (after the AVC SET DVR) until now.
Solution
In May 2017, a DVR of 150 KVA / 400V was installed. A high stability in the process was achieved by reducing unproductive rate to less than 0.5%, wastage below 0.3% and completely eliminated the breakage of Halogen lamps of the blowers.
The most important for Tapón Corona is Coca-Cola’s satisfaction, which can be achieved by not generating unproductive time and delivering good quality products.
