Zigor India executes rooftop solar installations to supply electricity to 14 country schools

April 2014

India is one of the most energy hungry developing countries in the world. More than 2.5GW of solar PV installations have been commissioned in India since the year 2009. Due to the power crisis faced by many states in India, many local governments are installing rooftop PV systems to try to overcome the huge power deficits faced by the utilities.  These projects will benefit the local communities and also help the country to stabilize its electrical grid.

In a remote town in Tamil Nadu, a southern state in India, the local municipality has implemented 3kWp of solar PV technology for 14 schools in the same town located at various locations.

The rooftop installations were executed in just 10 days by the local EPC, according to Mr. M.S. Balaji the Head of Business development in India for Zigor. The projects include 250Wp polycrystalline solar panels from Vikram (12 panels on each school). Zigor India Pvt Ltd supplied 14 single phase on-grid inverters ZIGOR SOLAR TL1.

These systems will produce enough energy during school hours to run fans and lights, and they will also help to operate motors to store water in overhead tanks for drinking and toilet use.

If any excess power is generated, this additional power is sent back to the grid and the schools benefit through the net metering. The grid is stable at the solar sites with voltage varying from 210 to 240V AC. The on-grid inverter helps to stabilize the power flowing to the grid.
